[Reports] Newcastle ‘close’ to agreeing deal with Mauricio Pochettino

According to reports from French media, Newcastle are close to agreeing a deal with Mauricio Pochettino that would see him take the managerial hot-seat at the end of the current season.

For the last couple of weeks, Newcastle fans the world over have been left on tenterhooks awaiting some sort of announcement to say the club was under new ownership.

As it is, that announcement is yet to arrive – and we’re not entirely sure when, or even if, it will. Despite that, links to potential new managers and players are aplenty – not least the link to former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

The new report, which comes from French outlet Le10Sports, claims that Newcastle and Pochettino have been in concrete talks and that an agreement between the two sides is “close”.

Le10Sports say that, unless something drastic changes, Pochettino will be appointed as the Newcastle manager in the near future.

He is ‘expected’ to take over at the end of the season, meaning current manager Steve Bruce will remain in position until at least then – unless of course he gets the hump about having been replaced and just walks away.

To be perfectly honest, if Steve Bruce does just decide to walk away if the club replace him, he really can’t be blamed for doing that.

Pochettino would be an incredible coup for Newcastle United but, at this moment in time, the takeover hasn’t even been announced yet. I think certain media outlets are getting slightly too far ahead of themselves with all of this.

For now, it’s just a waiting game for Newcastle fans. New reports from the House of Saud say the takeover was supposed to be announced on Monday but will now happen within the next week.

Once that happens, then we can start dreaming about people like Pochettino…
