Reported Newcastle United transfer target Odsonne Edouard sees the club as an “attractive next step” in his career, according to the Scottish Mail.
The 22-year-old, who currently plays his trade for Scottish champions Celtic, had been linked with a move south of the border last week – with NUFC touted as a potential landing spot.

Edouard has attracted widespread interest though, so Newcastle aren’t the only team sniffing around. Arsenal are also said to be interested, while a host of foreign teams have been mentioned too.
The Scottish Mail claim that Newcastle are considering putting in a £25m bid for Edouard and he would be open to the move too. They say he sees the Magpies as an “attractive next step” in his young career.
As was reported by transfer expert Ian McGarry last week, Edouard is looking for a move that will allow him to develop his talents on the pitch rather than just sitting on the bench.
In that regard, Newcastle may have a slight advantage over the likes of Arsenal – who already have some very good options up top in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
This is what McGarry said last week:
“He [Edouard] and his representatives have stated to interested parties that he doesn’t want to go to a club where he will be second or third choice, he wants to develop his career in a very constructive and progressive way.
“Money is not the be-all and end-all at this stage in his career and also obviously a move from Glasgow to Newcastle for the France striker would not be as much as a shock I suspect.”
He sounds like a boy who has his head screwed on and is focused on the right things – which will go down well on Tyneside.
Obviously any move is dependent on the takeover going through so it’s important we don’t get too far ahead of ourselves. The PIF/PCP/Reuben takeover of NUFC is still with the Premier League and awaiting approval – so the likelihood of the club submitting any “bids” in the near future is slim.
