Willems: “it will not be my last game for NUFC!!!”

During Saturday’s unbelievable win over Chelsea, Newcastle defender Jetro Willems suffered a season ending knee injury. Today, he has taken to his social media to tell fans he will do everything he can to make sure it’s “not his last game for NUFC!!!”

In a statement on his Instagram, Willems wrote: “While I am typing this my eyes are full of tears.

“I pray before each game and I ask God to let everyone end the match healthy whether we win or lose.

“As you already may have heard, the game against Chelsea was my last game for the season.

“I had in all fronts and ways an incredible, beautiful, fun and especially a good half year and I want to thank everyone who were involved in that.

“It was fantastic to play for NUFC! I will come back stronger.

“I believe in the plan I made with God and the path we have chosen, I pledge to do everything I can, so it will not be my last game for NUFC!!! Thanks for all the messages.”

Willems has been fantastic all season long for Newcastle in that left wing-back role and given that United have the option to make his move permanent, they absolutely have to do so.

It’s clear he does not want to leave Newcastle and judging by the outpouring of support on social media, the fans do not want him to leave either. Get his option triggered as soon as possible so he can work through his rehabilitation at Newcastle’s Benton training ground.

The last thing anyone wants is him to be sent back to Frankfurt at this tender stage in his recovery.
