Uruguayan star Edinson Cavani has been urged not to join Newcastle United this summer.
His fellow countryman, Dario Silva, told Italian media that he hopes Cavani doesn’t opt for the North East, and instead heads off to La Liga.
“I dream of seeing Cavani at Real Madrid. I hope he doesn’t go to Newcastle,” said Silva.
Cavani was one of the first big names linked with the club in the direct aftermath of the takeover speculation, along with the likes of Antoine Griezmann.
We may be slightly getting ahead of ourselves with names like that and, to be honest, it’s little surprise to hear people trying to urge big name player to avoid this move.
In the early days of the (potential) new ownership on Tyneside, the club will be looking to be active in the transfer market.
While names like Cavani and Griezmann are great, it’s more than a little ambitious to expect moves like that straightaway.
For me personally, I’d like to see the club going after younger players with a bright future. The last thing we want is to become a one-stop shop for washed up players looking to make a buck before they retire.
