Newcastle ‘ask’ about availability of Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic

According to 90min.com, Newcastle are one of a number of clubs who have ‘asked’ about the availability of Real Madrid striker, Luka Jovic.

Since signing for Real Madrid last summer, Jovic has struggled to make much of an impact and has been restricted largely to cameo appearances.

This season, he’s made a total of 24 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and assisting two. He’s managed to play the full 90 minutes on just one occasion all season.

According to the report, Luke Jovic’s close friend and compatriot Aleksandar Mitrovic has “sung the praises of Tyneside”. Mitro spent three years at Newcastle and moved on in 2018 after falling out of favour under Rafael Benitez.

United aren’t the only team chasing Jovic’s signature, though. Arsenal and West Ham are both thought to be interested in signing the 22-year-old. West Ham’s current striker Sebastian Haller was Jovic’s strike partner in Frankfurt.

Should the rumours be true and United do sign Jovic, that would be a real statement of intent about the direction of the club. Of course, before any deals like this can materialise, the takeover will need to be finalised.

That seems to be only a matter of days away from becoming a reality, but with Newcastle United you just never know…
